In what ways is the artifact meaningful? For whom? Why? Under what circumstances?
This artifact which is known as the Jerry Wayne Fletcher quilt is meaningful because it memorializes Jerry’s life and demonstrates his battle with Aids/Hiv. It is meaningful because we know that he passed away and it reminds us of his life and memories. It also becomes very meaningful by how personalized the quilt is. First his bandana, his shirt, his suspenders which are things that he would wear. Then the pictures connect us to him and show us some moments of his life when he was with friends and happy. Lastly, I believe that the letter makes it most meaningful because is a friend to friend. It’s a personal letter that he wrote with his deepest feelings for his friend when he was in pain and is being displayed for others. I believe that this was done so that others could understand his pain, they could reminisce as he was and could connect to both Jerry and Ricky, the friend who wrote the letter. This is meaningful to Jerry’s friends and family. To other people who view the quilt and the Names Project Foundation.
